Free summer lunches for kids

Children ages 1-18 can get a free lunch on weekdays while schools are closed for summer! See this printable flyer (2-sided, bilingual) for dates, times and locations throughout the county. Or text SUMMERFOOD to 877-877 for a location near you.

For more information about why this program is so important, read on.

Just as learning does not end when school lets out, neither does a child’s need for good nutrition.

In fact, 84% of children in our county who receive free or reduced-priced lunches during the school year don’t receive any meal assistance during the summer, a time of critical brain development. That’s 34,000 children in our community.

But thanks to the USDA Summer Food Service Program and local organizations like the Foodbank, free summer lunch is offered at dozens of locations countywide, including many parks, schools, and community centers. Any child 18 and under is welcome to come and receive a free, delicious lunch every weekday this summer. There is no registration process or income verification required...just show up! Meals are served on a first-come, first-served basis. Many locations also offer activities, games, and nutrition education.
