Board Recognizes CalFresh Awareness Month

In a resolution passed unanimously at their June 3 meeting, the Santa Barbara County Board of Supervisors  proclaimed June as Santa Barbara County CalFresh Awareness Month. The resolution noted the tremendous impact of CalFresh—a program administered by the Santa Barbara County Department of Social Services (DSS) that helps low-income households buy food—in reducing hunger in our community. The meeting was attended by representatives of both DSS and our anti-hunger community nonprofit partners, who help raise awareness and enrollment for CalFresh. 

Lee Gonzales of DSS: County Employee of the Month!

Yalila "Lee" Gonzales, a Career Employment Specialist Supervisor in the Employment Services Branch of DSS, has been named Santa Barbara County Employee of the Month. In a resolution unanimously adopted at their June 3 meeting, and attended by several DSS co-workers, the Board of Supervisors recognized her 25 years of outstanding service to clients and her staff. March 2012 is Professional Social Work month, and the Board of Supervisors presented our social work and career employment staff with a resolution honoring the critical work they do.
